Romanticizing North Sumatra: A Journey Back to My Father's Hometown

Sumatra Utara has always been a special place for me, full of memories and a deep connection to my roots. This year, my family and I decided to take a long trip back to my father’s hometown in Sipinggan to celebrate Christmas and New Year’s with our extended family. It was a perfect chance for us to slow down, reconnect with where we come from, and spend meaningful time together.

Our journey started with a long road trip from Jakarta to Danau Toba, one of the most beautiful places in Sumatra Utara. The drive was full of scenic views that made the trip more exciting. We were surrounded by green hills, villages, and rivers along the way, which made the journey feel like an adventure. As we got closer to Danau Toba, our excitement grew, and we couldn’t wait to see the lake.

When we finally arrived, we checked into a hotel on Samosir Island. From the hotel, we had an amazing view of Danau Toba, with its wide blue waters and hills in the distance. It was such a peaceful place to be. Before we settled in, we visited a natural hot spring in Samosir. The hot spring was surrounded by nature, and the warm water flowing from the earth was so relaxing. The cool air and the peaceful environment made it a perfect spot to unwind. We spent hours there, soaking in the warmth and beauty of the place, and it felt like a time to reconnect with ourselves and nature.

After our visit to the hot springs, we returned to our hotel on Samosir Island. Sitting by the lake in the afternoon, we took in the serene surroundings. The sound of the water, the fresh air, and the quiet made everything feel calm and special. We spent some time talking and reminiscing about old memories. As the evening came, we enjoyed a delicious Batak meal, which made the day even better. The food was warm and comforting, and it was a perfect way to end our first day in Sumatra Utara.

The next day, we continued our journey to Sipinggan, my father’s hometown. Sipinggan is a small village, but it holds a lot of meaning for our family. It’s where my father grew up, and where many of our relatives still live. We were greeted warmly by family members we hadn’t seen in years. The atmosphere was different from the busy city life we were used to. This Christmas felt more meaningful because it was simple and full of love. We celebrated by sharing stories, enjoying home-cooked meals, and spending time together. It wasn’t a big celebration, but the warmth and closeness of being with family made it unforgettable.

On New Year’s Eve, we gathered around a bonfire to welcome the new year. Instead of a big party, we enjoyed the warmth of the fire and the company of our loved ones. We shared our hopes and dreams for the new year, prayed together, and reflected on the past year. The feeling of togetherness, love, and peace filled the night, and it reminded us how important family is. Being together, even in the simplest way, meant so much more than any celebration or fireworks.

Sumatra Utara, with its beautiful nature and peaceful atmosphere, will always remind me of the importance of coming home, to the place where we truly belong. From the relaxing hot springs in Samosir to the simple and meaningful Christmas and New Year celebrations in Sipinggan, this trip was a reminder of what really matters. It taught us the true value of family, togetherness, and taking the time to appreciate the people who matter most. The memories we created during this trip will always hold a special place in my heart and be part of our family’s story for years to come.

Romantisasi Semarang: A Heartwarming Family Journey

Semarang is a city on the north coast of Java that’s filled with charm, history, and warmth. My family and I recently visited, and the trip turned out to be one of those experiences you don’t forget. From the welcoming vibe to the tasty food, Semarang made us feel right at home the moment we arrived.

The first thing we noticed when we got there was how nice the weather was. It wasn’t too hot, and there was a soft breeze from the sea that made everything feel just right. We couldn’t wait to start exploring. Our plan was simple: visit some of the city’s most popular spots, like the historical Kota Lama, and of course, try some of the local dishes Semarang is famous for.

Our first stop was Kota Lama, also known as the Old Town. The area is full of old colonial buildings that have been around for years. Walking down the cobblestone streets felt like stepping back in time. The architecture was stunning, with every building telling a story. We stopped by Blenduk Church, with its iconic dome, and the old post office, which is still in use. The entire area felt like a piece of history that’s been beautifully preserved. We took lots of photos because every corner of Kota Lama looked like it belonged in a postcard.

After exploring, it was time to eat. Semarang is well-known for its delicious food, and we couldn’t wait to try Tahu Gimbal. This local dish is a mix of crispy tofu, shrimp cakes, vegetables, and spicy peanut sauce. The combination was perfect—comforting and full of flavor. Eating it together as a family made it even more special. It felt like the city was welcoming us not just with sights but also with its food.

Next, we headed to Lawang Sewu, one of Semarang’s most famous landmarks. The building is known for its spooky reputation, but it’s also absolutely stunning. The tall windows and wide hallways gave the place a grand yet mysterious vibe. Walking through it made us wonder about all the stories hidden within its walls. It was fascinating to think about what it might have been like back in the day when the building was first used.

As the day came to an end, we wanted a peaceful spot to relax. We found ourselves at Taman Srigunting, a small park in the city center. It was quiet, with tall trees and a cool breeze that made it the perfect place to unwind. Sitting on a bench and looking around, we reflected on everything we had seen that day. Earlier, the city had been busy and lively, but in the evening, it felt calm and soothing.

To wrap up the day, we stopped at a cozy café nearby for coffee and snacks. Sitting together, we talked about the places we had visited and the memories we had made. It was a simple moment, but it reminded us of how important it is to spend time with family.

This trip to Semarang wasn’t just about visiting new places—it was about being together, laughing, and making memories that we’ll carry with us forever. Every street, every meal, and every moment in the city felt special. Semarang isn’t just a destination; it’s a city with a soul, and it will always have a special place in our hearts.

Romantisasi Jakarta: Finding Calm in the Chaos

Jakarta is a city that never sleeps, always full of life and things happening. I recently spent a day exploring it with a couple of friends, and it was one of those trips that made me realize how much this city has to offer.

We decided to take the Transjakarta bus, which is probably one of the easiest ways to get around. The bus was pretty comfortable, and it gave us a good view of the city as we moved through it. One moment, we were passing by tall, modern buildings, and the next, we’d spot traditional markets with all kinds of vendors. The mix of old and new is what makes Jakarta so unique.

Our first stop was Blok M, a busy area where there’s always something going on. We got off the bus and started walking around. The streets were crowded with people, and there was a ton of activity. We passed by shops selling clothes, electronics, food, you name it. Even though the place was busy, it didn’t feel chaotic, there was a kind of calm that made walking around enjoyable. The late afternoon breeze brought with it the smell of food and the city, which made everything feel warm and familiar.

As we continued walking, the sky started to change. The sun was setting, and the orange colors in the sky made the whole city feel peaceful. We decided to head over to Senayan, another popular area, to grab some dinner. We were excited to try sate taichan, a dish that’s become pretty famous in Jakarta. It’s known for its spicy flavor and juicy chicken. We found a simple spot with a lot of people around, and the food didn’t disappoint. The chicken was just the right amount of spicy, and the rice that came with it was the perfect comfort food.

After dinner, the city started to look even more beautiful. The streetlights turned on, giving everything a warm glow, and the atmosphere felt calm. We walked through Senayan, where people were out enjoying their night. There were cafes, food stalls, and restaurants, and the vibe was energetic but peaceful at the same time. It wasn’t overwhelming at all, and it felt nice to be able to just walk around and take in the surroundings.

By the end of the day, I realized how much Jakarta really has to offer. It’s known for its traffic and busy streets, but there’s so much more to it. In the middle of all the noise, there’s a peaceful side to the city that’s easy to miss if you’re just rushing around. Jakarta is a place where different cultures meet, and where the past and present coexist. It’s a city that’s constantly moving, but it also has these moments of calm that make it special.

Spending a day in Jakarta gave me a new perspective on the city. It’s not just about the chaos and noise, it’s about the people, the food, and the little moments that make the city feel alive. Even though the city is always moving, there’s something comforting about it. Jakarta isn’t just a place, it’s an experience, and the more time you spend here, the more you realize how much there is to discover.

Looking back, I’m glad I got to explore Jakarta in my own way. Every time you visit, you get something different, whether it’s the energy, the food, or just the feeling of walking through its streets. It’s a city that stays with you long after you leave.

Romanticizing Surabaya: A Simple, Memorable Journey

Surabaya, a city full of energy and warmth, has a charm that I couldn’t ignore. Although I was only there for a short time, I immediately felt like I was part of the city. The moments I spent there were filled with simple joys and unexpected surprises, making this trip feel like more than just a visit.

The main reason I went to Surabaya was to meet up with my friend, R. We had been planning to spend some time together, exploring the city and seeing what it had to offer. Our first stop was OCA, an ice skating rink in the heart of Surabaya. The moment I stepped onto the rink, I felt a rush of excitement, like a kid ready to have fun. As I skated around, the cold air wasn’t the only thing I felt, it was the pure joy of being there with R, sharing a fun experience.

It was R's first time ice skating, and since I had done it before, I was able to help them keep their balance. It was pretty funny because R fell a couple of times, but we both ended up laughing at how clumsy we were. Even though the rink was crowded, we had a great time, just enjoying the moment and the freedom that came with gliding across the ice.

After skating, we were both hungry and decided to check out Tunjungan Plaza, one of Surabaya’s most famous malls. Tunjungan Plaza is a place where you can find a mix of everything, shopping, food, and people from all walks of life. We walked around, checking out the shops, but it was the smell of food that really caught our attention. After a busy afternoon, we decided to treat ourselves to some Japanese food. We ordered katsu, which turned out to be the perfect choice. The chicken was crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and served with a side of rice and a savory katsu sauce. It was simple but satisfying, just what we needed to recharge.

As we finished our meal, the sun began to set, and the mood outside felt more peaceful. We decided to take a walk along Jalan Tunjungan, the main street in the area. The rain had just stopped, and the wet streets gave the city a fresh, almost magical feel. The streetlights glowed softly, casting beautiful reflections on the wet pavement, making everything look like a scene from a movie. The cool breeze that followed the rain was refreshing, and it made the walk even more enjoyable.

We took our time, strolling slowly, enjoying the quiet after the rain. People walked by, each caught up in their own little world, but the calmness of the city gave everything a sense of peace. It was nice to just be in the moment, appreciating the beauty of the surroundings and the company of a good friend.

Surabaya is a city that always has something unexpected to offer. Whether it's the fun of ice skating or the joy of sharing a meal with a friend, I found myself connecting with the city more than I expected. The rain made the city feel even more alive, with every drop adding to the experience. Walking along Jalan Tunjungan with R, taking our time to enjoy the sights and sounds of the city, made me realize that Surabaya is a place full of hidden treasures.

To many, Surabaya might just be a busy city known for trade, but to me, it’s so much more. It’s a city full of stories waiting to be discovered. From the small moments of laughter while ice skating to the peaceful walk after the rain, Surabaya showed me that happiness can be found in the simplest things. It’s a city that leaves you with memories and a feeling that there’s something deeper in every experience you have there. I left Surabaya with a sense of warmth and contentment, knowing that this city had given me more than just a visit, it had given me a connection to its heart.

Romanticizing Bali: A Week of Adventure and Romance

On August 20th, I finally went on a long-awaited vacation with someone special, whom I'll call R. We traveled to the beautiful island of Bali for a week. Bali, known as the Island of the Gods, is famous for its stunning views, rich culture, and warm vibe. From the moment we arrived, I felt excited and ready for our adventure.

Our first stop was Kuta Beach, a lively place filled with tourists from all over. The sound of crashing waves and laughter filled the air as we walked along the sandy shore. The cool ocean breeze felt refreshing after our journey. At Kuta, we grabbed some drinks and snacks from a beachside stall. Sitting on the beach, we talked, laughed, and enjoyed being together. As the sun began to set, we found a cozy spot to relax and watch the sky turn beautiful shades of orange and pink. That moment felt magical and was one we would always remember.

On our second day, we visited Uluwatu, known for its dramatic cliffs and breathtaking ocean views. As the afternoon sun warmed us, we settled in to watch a stunning Kecak Dance performance. The theater, perched on a cliff, provided a perfect backdrop for the sunset. The dancers moved gracefully, and the rhythmic chanting of "cak" created a special feeling. Watching R’s face light up with joy made my heart swell, and in that beautiful moment, I felt our bond getting stronger.

Next, we headed to Sanur Beach, which had a quieter and more relaxed vibe. We found a perfect spot to sit and enjoy the gentle sea breeze. We treated ourselves to delicious gelato from a local shop and savored the sweet flavors while watching the world go by. Later, we took a scenic drive along the Bali toll road, enjoying stunning views of the island as the sun set behind us. Each place we visited had its own charm, making us love Bali even more.

Back at our accommodation, R excitedly suggested an ATV adventure for the next day. Riding an ATV through the rugged trails of Bali became one of the highlights of our trip. We zoomed through lush forests, rocky paths, and splashed through waterfalls, getting soaked along the way! The feeling of freedom was amazing, and seeing R's big smile as she navigated the tough trails made me really happy. Every twist and turn revealed more beautiful scenery, making our experience even more memorable.

Our journey continued at Seminyak Beach, where the setting was laid back and perfect for relaxing. We spent the day making fun videos and chatting while lounging on the beach. It was the perfect way to unwind and enjoy each other’s company. As the day came to an end, the sunset painted the sky with vibrant shades of orange and purple, creating a romantic scene. I felt so grateful for these beautiful moments together.

Our week in Bali was full of adventures, stunning views, and unforgettable memories. From the amazing Kecak Dance to the peaceful beaches and exciting ATV ride, every experience brought us closer. Unfortunately, we couldn't visit Kintamani due to time constraints. However, all the moments we shared made this trip incredibly special. Bali’s charm and beauty will always have a special place in my heart.

I hope to return to this magical island one day with R to explore even more wonders and create new memories together.

Romanticizing Banten: A Family Getaway

Banten, with its beautiful nature and rich culture, is a great place for a short vacation. During our family trip, we enjoyed peaceful moments and stunning views, especially while staying in a beachside villa and visiting Goa Langir Beach in Sawarna.

After a fun journey, we arrived at our villa right by the beach. The sound of the waves and the cool sea breeze welcomed us, creating a relaxing vibe. The villa had amazing views of the ocean, making us feel right at home. We quickly settled in and decided to spend our afternoon walking along the beach. The soft, white sand felt great under our feet, and the sunset painted the sky with beautiful colors. This moment gave us a chance to share stories and enjoy the beauty of nature. Once the sun went down, we returned to the villa to relax. We made our own dinner, which made our stay even more special. That evening, we gathered on the terrace, enjoying the calm of the night. The sound of the waves and the twinkling stars above created a magical atmosphere. Being together as a family made the night truly memorable.

The next morning, we woke up excited to explore Goa Langir Beach. After a good breakfast, we set off for the beach, famous for its natural beauty. The drive there was lovely, with green trees and sparkling blue water all around. When we arrived at Goa Langir, we found soft sand and clear water. This beach is known for its beautiful waves and high cliffs, making it a perfect spot for family fun. We spent our time playing in the water, building sandcastles, and exploring small caves along the shore. Every part of the beach felt like a hidden treasure waiting to be found. The kids were thrilled as they splashed around, laughing and having a blast. It was wonderful to see them so happy and enjoying nature.

We also took time to enjoy fresh seafood sold by local vendors. The flavors were delicious, adding to our overall experience. Eating lunch with the family while listening to the calming sounds of the beach made our time together even better. After a fun day at Goa Langir, we headed back to the villa to rest and clean up before going home. As night fell, we got ready to leave. During the drive back, we shared stories and laughter, remembering all the fun we had on our trip. It was a great way to reflect on our time together and the new experiences we shared.

This short trip to Banten gave us wonderful memories. With its stunning views, peaceful beaches, and the warmth of family time, our vacation became something we will always cherish. We returned home feeling happy and already wanting to come back. Banten, with all its charm, left a lasting impression on us, and we hope to explore more of its beauty next time. Looking back, this trip wasn’t just about visiting new places; it was about reconnecting with family and making lasting memories. The peaceful days spent on the beach, filled with laughter and joy, reminded us how important it is to spend time together. Banten, with its lovely scenery and friendly people, will always hold a special place in our hearts, and we can’t wait for our next family getaway.

Romanticizing Bandung: A 2 Day, 1 Night Getaway

Bandung, known as "Kota Kembang," is always a great place to visit. My short trip of 2 days and 1 night started with a train ride from Malang to Bandung. Meeting my family, who came from Jakarta, made this holiday extra special.

I started my journey in the evening, taking a train that showed me the beautiful sights of East Java. When I arrived in Bandung, I felt excited. I quickly contacted my family, and we agreed to meet at a popular dining spot, Kopi Moyan. When I got there, I felt a warm welcome as I saw my family. We hugged, happy to see each other after a few months apart. We sat together, enjoying porridge and other tasty dishes, sharing stories and laughter. It was a wonderful moment after such a long time. Once we finished eating, we headed to our hotel to drop off our bags. Our hotel was close to Jalan Braga, an area full of history and art. After settling in, we walked along the street, admiring the historic buildings and cute cafes.

In the evening, I met my friend Duta, who studies in Bandung. We decided to visit a cozy cafe called Sloow, which he recommended. At the cafe, we enjoyed the cozy setting and delicious drinks. Duta shared stories about his life in Bandung, and we reminisced about good times, making this moment even more special. After our cafe visit, we explored the area and went to Street Food Lengkong. There, I tried bola ubi (sweet potato balls), which I absolutely loved. They were warm, sweet but not too sweet, and I was excited to taste different Bandung snacks. Then we went to a local eatery to try several tasty dishes. The energetic evening vibe made our street food experience even more enjoyable. Duta kindly drove me back to the hotel, and we said our goodbyes.

The next morning, my family and I decided to eat at a famous ramen restaurant in Bandung. The cozy vibe and delicious smells made us eager to eat. The ramen menu had many choices, and we all enjoyed trying different kinds. This meal was not just tasty but also created great memories for us. After enjoying our ramen, we visited Pasar Trifthing, known for its variety of clothes and accessories. We spent time looking for unique and trendy outfits, picking up some stylish clothes to take home, including t-shirts and local accessories. Before leaving Bandung, we made time for a final lunch. The food was delicious, and the friendly service made us feel at home. We shared more stories and laughter, ending our holiday with happiness. After lunch, my family got ready to drive back to Jakarta, while I took a bus back to Malang to continue my studies. Saying goodbye was tough, but the lovely memories from this trip will always stay with me.

These two days and one night in Bandung gave me unforgettable experiences. The beautiful city views, tasty food, and warm togetherness made this trip very special. I returned home with a happy heart, already wanting to visit this amazing city again. This short holiday was more than just a trip, it was a special time to strengthen bonds with family and friends and celebrate togetherness. Bandung, see you again soon!

Romanticizing North Sumatra: A Journey Back to My Father's Hometown

Sumatra Utara has always been a special place for me, full of memories and a deep connection to my roots. This year, my family and I decided...
